Psoriatic Arthritis

You can get Psoriatic arthritis from having an inflammatory skin disease known as Psoriasis. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease where your immune system attacks healthy cells as if they where diseased.

Although heredity is believed to have a role in autoimmune diseases, there is usually a second factor which triggers the condition.

Stress can be a primary trigger. Other triggers may include injury (with psoriasis beginning at the site of trauma), nutrient deficiency – especially of essential fatty acids – and toxins such as sugar, alcohol and allergens.

3 Steps to Inflammation

Step1 - is called antecedent. Antecedent is like being prone to a condition because of heredity or environment.

Step 2 - is the trigger. The trigger is something like stress, injury, nutrient deficiencies, or toxins.

Step 3 - release of inflammatory mediators like histamines. Histamine is stored in special cells called mast cells. Mast cells are like balloons filled with acid, that pop during trauma, stress, or toxins in the body. Histamines are then released which causes inflammation.

Psoriatic Arthritis and Inflammation

Mast cells are all over our bodies. They are in our airways, digestive tracts and also abundant in our joints. Runaway inflammation sets in when a bunch of histamine is released from one cell and that triggers other cells to do the same. As the cycle goes over and over toxic levels of histamine from the skin can cause the mast cells in the joints to release their histamines as well and bingo! Psoriatic Arthritis!

So How Do You Help Fix It!

Lower You Stress - Everyone responds differently to stress. Deep breathing is an excellent way to reduce your stress. Adaptogens are as well. Adaptogens are 10 known herbal extracts that help the body cope with stress.

Nutritional Deficiencies - Many times people with psoriasis are deficient in Omega vitamins or EFA’s. EFA stands for essential fatty acids, or they are also known as the good fats. Another common deficiency is vitamin D. Did you know that we get vitamin D from sunshine? Exposing ourselves to a little sun is not such a bad thing after all! Just remember not to get burned.

Reduce Histamine - Very few nutrients can reduce histamines like Vitamin C and Vitamin B-12. Vitamin B-12 can keep the body from forming histamine in the first place and Vitamin C acts like a body-wide antihistamine.

Reduce Joint Inflammation - If inflammation has reached into your joints a supplement with a combination of glucosamine and chondroitin along with anti-inflammatory nutrients like boron offer more joint protection than even some NSAIDS (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).

Take control of your psoriatic arthritis by providing the correct nutrients to keep you whole body well!
