" Your Arthritis Symptoms Can Be Relieved "

Arthritis symptoms vary depending on which form of arthritis you are suffering from. This page will focus on the symptoms of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, the 2 most common forms in the US.

Osteoarthritis

Joint pain and stiffness are the primary symptoms of osteoarthritis. Since everyone is different, pain and stiffness can come from normal wear and tear, to heavy physical abuse sustained from sporting events or an accident. Also the strain of being overweight can affect the joints too.

The symptoms usually start showing up after exercising or other exertion. In this stage, a bit of rest and the pain goes away. But, as the osteoarthritis gets worse, the symptoms last longer and sometimes even prevent you from sleeping or doing other activities.

As things progress with this form of arthritis, the cartilage can wear so much that you’ll actually hear the bone on bone sounds that your joints make. Ouch!

Over the long haul, you may see a loss of your mobility. The joints can become inflamed and swollen. You may have, at this stage, what is called erosive inflammatory osteoarthritis. More common in middle-aged females, deformity can result from one side of the joint wearing out faster than the other. With proper treatment most people do not become crippled from osteoarthritis.

Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is considered an auto-immune disease and causes severe inflammation of the joints. An auto-immune disease is defined by the body’s immune system mistakenly attacking good tissues. This disease usually affects people in a symmetrical way.

This means that it can be in corresponding joints on both sides of the body. The joints that are most affected are wrists, fingers, legs, and arms. The synovium or the joint lining gets inflamed which triggers arthritis symptoms of: joint redness, swelling, warmth, pain, and stiffness.

It Doesn’t Just Effect Your Joints!

Not only are the joints affected, many times the tendons, tissues, and muscles around the joints can get inflamed and this can cause increased mobility problems in most people.

Rheumatoid arthritis can go on to affect the lungs, eyes, and heart in many people. This can cause additional fatigue, fever, and weight lose.

As Part of the Treatment…

It is important to eat a balanced diet, exercise, lose weight if necessary, and rest to help the symptoms of this disease. A lot of people report that they have more pain when they eat too much sugar in their diets.

Others swear by their supplements of Glucosamine & Chondroitin Sulfate. These are two naturally occurring compounds in the body which aid cartilage in its repair and elasticity.

Some take supplements of MSM or Methylsulfonylmethane. Studies have shown that it can relieve muscle and joint pain, soften collagen and reduce inflammation. Back in 2001 USA Today did a story on the actor Robert Culp and how he supplemented his diet with MSM and became pain free from his arthritis. Here is a link to there story.

You’ll have to find what works best for you, and supplementing your conventional treatment with more natural remedies for arthritis can often further ease your arthritis symptoms.

So watch your diet, and check with your doctor, but with a bit of care you can live a full life with arthritis!
